Liufau settles
on college

Former Saint Louis defensive lineman Tolifili Liufau said yesterday he's headed to Pasadena City College in California.
The Star-Bulletin's No. 1 rated Hawaii high school football recruit will leave for California on July 7.
A two-time Star-Bulletin all-state selection, the 6-foot-3, 310-pound Liufau was an integral part of the Crusaders' state championship run last fall.
"I've talked to the (Pasadena) coaches on the phone and they sound like good people," Liufau said. "They told me that the position I'm playing (defensive tackle) is open and that only one guy is returning at that position. That's a really good thing because I want to get in there and play right away."
He had signed a letter of intent to play for Washington State in February, and he had considered Snow College in Utah, which has a history of funneling players to Washington State.
Liufau's choice of Pasadena City College raises speculation that he could eventually play for Southern California, which recruits heavily from the JC and recruited Liufau.
"I'm keeping my options (for future Division I possibilities) open right now," he said.
Saint Louis football coach Delbert Tengan thinks a Division I future remains bright for Liufau.
"Hopefully he has a good enough career (in junior college) and takes care of things academically to have those (Division I) choices later on."
