Lee set to defend title
at Mid-Pacific Open

Regan Lee will return to defend his title in the 45th Mid-Pacific Open golf tournament set for April 10-13 at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Joining Lee in the four-day competition will be eight-time Mid-Pac champion Lance Suzuki (1977, '78, '81, '83, '84, '87, '92, '93), Larry Stubblefield ('72, '01), Beau Yokomoto (2000), Casey Nakama ('96), Brandan Kop ('95) and Deron Doi ('94).

Some of the top amateurs scheduled to play are Parker McLachlin, Joe Phengsavath, Del-Marc Fujita, Johnathan Ota and Guy Yamamoto.

Play will begin at 6:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday in five flights -- pro, senior pro, championship, A and B -- with the field cut to 45 percent and ties for the remaining two days.

The final round is Sunday, with the leaders expected to tee off at approximately 9 a.m.

Southern shuts down Hawaii in twinbill

After seeing Hawaii sweep her Fresno State team Saturday, Jamie Southern made sure it didn't happen again.

Southern pitched complete games in both ends of a doubleheader yesterday, beating Hawaii 7-0 in the first game and 6-0 in the second.

Southern pitched 14 innings and only gave up nine hits while striking out 14. As if that wasn't enough, Southern went 5-for-7 at the plate with three RBIs.

Sea Warriors fall short: Hawaii Pacific lost 4-1 to Cal State Bakersfield in the semifinals of the Easton Tournament of Champions at Modesto, Calif., yesterday. The Sea Warriors were the only Hawaii team to advance to the second round. Chaminade beat San Francisco State 1-0 and UH-Hilo lost to UC San Diego 1-0 to close out the competition.
