The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Maui Land nears high


Maui Land & Pineapple Co. moved closer to a 52-week high and Bank of Hawaii Corp. matched its 12-month peak to lead the way this week in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index.

Even with a search under way to replace its top executive, MLP continued to rise. It gained 8.9 percent to $21.12, less than two points below its 52-week high of $22.75 hit in April. The company, up an index-leading 33.3 percent this year, is seeking a chief executive officer and president to replace Gary Gifford, who will retire May 27. Bank of Hawaii, meanwhile, rose 2.56 percent to $31.68 to match the 52-week high it set on Wednesday.
