The Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau presented 15 Kahili awards and 23 certificates of merit today to community-minded companies, organizations and people as part of the 12th annual Keep It Hawaii Awards program.
Review panels of more than 70 volunteer judges selected winners in 18 categories from 120 entries. Travel Holiday magazine, with paid circulation of 652,677, will publish a special national section on the Keep It Hawaii program.
The Travel Holiday Best in Show award, presented today at a luncheon ceremony at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, was given to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island for its "After Dark in the Park" series of evening programs, which have run for the past 13 years.
Kahili awards went to TS Restaurants, Parker Ranch, Hawaii.com, Jane Hopkins and Betty Santos, Mauna Lani Resort, Bishop Museum, Group 70 International, Waimea Plantation Cottages, Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, Ka Molokai Makahiki, Hana Hou! magazine and Pacific Islanders in Communications.
The Hawaii visitors bureau, a state-funded tourism marketing organization, created the Kahili awards in 1990 to recognize individuals and organizations who work to preserve Hawaiian culture.
