The mother of a Kaneohe Marine is offering a $500 reward for the return of her son's wedding pictures that were stolen from his rental car Monday at the Pali Lookout.
"Something needs to be done. My son's heart is broken," Mary Ann Dingle said this morning from her home in Massachusetts.
"My son doesn't need to go to the Middle East with a heavy heart."
Her son, Patrick, is scheduled to leave tomorrow for the Persian Gulf for the war in Iraq, she said.
He was married Friday and the ceremony -- with the sunset and the ocean off Diamond Head as the backdrop -- was documented well in photographs.
However, the photographs and their negatives were stolen Monday when the newlyweds stopped at the Windward scenic spot for picture-taking. A thief or thieves broke into the couple's rented, red Ford Mustang convertible and took two boxes of wedding photos, negatives, identification papers, credit cards and other valuables.
The new bride, Janelle, who flew to Oahu for the wedding and the honeymoon, sent out a plea yesterday, asking for the return of the photographs.
Dingle's mother this morning asked for the return of the stolen items, especially the wedding pictures.
"That's all that he wants, his pictures. They're of no value to anybody else," Dingle said.
Anyone with information about the stolen pictures is asked to call Mary Ann Dingle in Massachusetts at (978) 683-9093.
