Hawaii for Aiken

If Hawaii's "American Idol" audience has its way, Clay Aiken would take top prize in the national talent search, based on standings in our "Idol Pursuits" contest.

Our search for entries closed last Tuesday, and no doubt many were relieved when Aiken and, in no particular order, Trenyce, Ruben Studdard, Joshua Gracin and Corey Clark stayed in the game.

Yup, it was Julia Demato who got the boot -- no surprise there. But don't feel smug. Kimberely Locke came on strong, and so did the two usually insipid blondes Kimberly Caldwell and Carmen Rasmussen, while Trenyce faltered at playing the country gal.

And so far, judge Simon has demonstrated no fondness toward Clay, while fawning over Caldwell and Rasmussen.

"Idol" airs at 7 p.m. today on Fox. It's one down and eight more to go until the nation picks a winner, which also determines the winner of our contest. Stay tuned.
