JWS focuses on legacy

Six local fashion designers -- Jayne Miho, Janet Yamasaki, Anne Namba, Mai Scherelle, Kristal Koga and Laurie Moriwaki -- will bring color and style to the Japanese Women's Society annual Fashion Show Luncheon Benefit, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 26 at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel.

The show's "Living Legacy" theme complements the recently released book "Living Legacy: Outstanding Japanese Women of the 20th Century in Hawaii." The book, published by JWS and Island Heritage, is a tribute to the notable Japanese women who have made significant contributions to society.

"Designers Jayne Miho, Janet Yamasaki and Anne Namba are featured in the book, and Jayne has mentored designers Mai Scherelle, Kristal Koga and Laurie Moriwaki," said show coordinator Cathy Foy.

Fashions from the past leading to modern, contemporary styles will be highlighted, showing how pioneering women have influenced and contributed toward launching careers for others.

The event will open with boutique and craft sales from 9 a.m. in the lobby area, with "Living Legacy" book signings to 11 a.m. in the Iao Needle Room.

Tickets are $50, to benefit Kuakini Geriatric Care Home, Hale Pulama Mau. For tickets, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with a check or money order payable to JWS Foundation, P.O. Box 3233, Honolulu 96801. Include your name and phone number.

For information call Betty Hirozawa at 988-3588 or Kathy Inkinen at 521-2331.

Underneath it all

The right underpinnings are a must for today's sheer and fitted fashion. But how does one learn the ins and outs of bras that work like machinery to lift, separate, inflate, push and define?

How do you find the perfect body slimmer or shaper, and how do such newfangled casings differ from the girdles of old?

The Neiman Marcus "Intimate Details" event continues during store hours through Saturday, with consultants available to unlock the mysteries of correct fit and use of undergarments to smooth and enhance the look of your outergarments.

Those who purchase $200 or more in the Intimate Apparel department will received a striped NM tote bag, in the colors of springtime, filled with such goodies as a Fernando Sanches cosmetic bag, a Spanx body stocking, Estee Lauder's Pleasure Intense lotion and fragrance, and more.

Footloose

Meanwhile, your foot's health doesn't have to be a trade-off between bunions and sexy shoes. Taryn Rose has come up with a winning combination of comfort and style, and she'll be at the Neiman Marcus Ladies Shoes department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Rose is an orthopedic surgeon who saw too many patients suffering from pain and deformities due to poor-fitting shoes, and decided to do something about it. In 1998 she introduced her line of shoes offering breathability, full arch support and anatomically correct styling.
