OSAKA, Japan >> Ozeki Chiyotaikai broke Asashoryu's two-tournament winning streak by pushing the yokozuna out by oshidashi (frontal push out) to win the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament. Chiyotaikai beats
Asashoryu for CupStar-Bulletin news services
It was Chiyotaikai's third Emperor's Cup in 62 tournaments, and second in two years. He also won last year's Nagoya tournament.
Asashoryu won the first two tournaments of the year, which Chiyotaikai sat out of because of injury. Chiyotaikai had the most successful season of his 11-year career last year, when he won 72 percent of his matches.
Asashoryu could have forced a three-way tie, but lost to make Kaio's (10-5) match with Kotomitsuki meaningless. Kaio lost anyway.
Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, sat out with a torn tendon in his left wrist.
