Schofield soldiers leave to join
the global war on terrorism

About 80 soldiers from Schofield Barracks were deployed yesterday to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of operations, which includes the Persian Gulf region, to support the global war on terrorism and prepare for future contingencies. Army Spc. Dale Pettay, of Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, got a "Gum and Roses" card yesterday from a student at Sacred Hearts Academy. His wife, Crystal, and son Mark-Allen, 3, check out what is written on the card. The soldiers deployed this week all received cards from Sacred Hearts.

A LESSON IN REGAL HISTORY

Phil Maioho, kahu of Mauna Ala, told a group of students from Kuhio School about the history of the Royal Mausoleum in Nuuanu yesterday. They were seated in the chapel prior to visiting the mausoleum itself. The students made the trip in advance of a holiday honoring Prince Jonah Kuhio, which will be observed on Wednesday.
