Pig out on ono sounds
and ono grindsPASS THE POI: It'll be a night of ono food and live entertainment this Saturday when the "Great Hawaiian 105 KINE Luau" takes place at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.
Join Brickwood Galuteria and Frank B. Shaner, Sam Kapu, Braddah Wade and Randy Hudnall for this eat-until-you-sleep celebration. Menu items include kalua pig, squid luau, chicken long rice, beef stew, poke, pipikaula and much more. Once you've filled up, unbuckle your belt (or better yet, don't wear one) and relax to the music of the Brothers Cazimero, Ho'okena, Ledward Ka'apana and the Makaha Sons. Comedians Mel Cabang and Frank DeLima will also perform.
Tickets to the luau are $36.50 for adults; $25 for keiki ages 4-12. Doors open at 5 p.m.; call 526-4400 ...
DON'T HAVE enough money to fill up at the luau? Head over to Kapiolani Community College instead for the "Spring 2003 Outdoor Concert." KCC's Office of Student Activities organized this alcohol- and drug-free event, which will feature KCC student talent show winners along with Troy Fernandez's Kaiser's Surf Crew Band, Sista Robi Kahakalau and the Tapa Groove Band (composed of former members of The Mana'o Company).
The fun gets started at 5 p.m. this Saturday, and you're invited to bring a picnic dinner and chairs to enjoy the concert on KCC's central mall lawn. And don't forget, this one is absolutely free to check out ...
HELP SEND off the guys from Go Jimmy Go in style this weekend at Anna Bannana's -- the band heads off to Las Vegas next week to take part in "Ska Summit 2003."
Get down to Anna's early for a taste of the roots-rock-reggae platters that DJ Big Bar will be serving up hot and fresh, and a shot at $10,000 in free stuff. Former members of groups like the Tantra Monsters, Red Session, Dread Ashanti and Frogchild will also be on hand for a one-night stand of sorts with the band. Legendary radio personality Kamasami Kong will be in the house too ...
AFTER ALL THE fun on Saturday, get down to the Japanese Cultural Center on Sunday for a chance to star in a locally-produced television show. "Blood of the Samurai" is looking for a female lead between the ages of 18 and 25 to play the role of "Yuki," a venerable and mysterious female ninja. The actor chosen will work with Superbrawl champion Egan Inoue, who has already been selected to play a villain in the series.
Auditions take place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the JCC. Call 651-5016 for details ...
