This year's event will be held Dec. 4-6. It was originally scheduled Dec. 15-17.
Poipu Bay Golf Course and the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa will mark their 10th consecutive year of hosting the winners of the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship. The two-day, 36-hole event features a $1 million purse.
Tiger Woods won last year for the fifth straight time with a tournament and course record of 11-under-par 61. He finished with a record 17-under-par 127 to win by 14 strokes over Justin Leonard and David Love III.
UH in 12th place at Thompson tourney
Tara Chappell shot rounds of 79 and 78 for Hawaii, as the Rainbow Wahine finished the first day of the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament in 12th place yesterday.UH was at 661 on the par-72 Kaneohe Klipper Course, well behind Southern California (595). Hawaii-Silver was at 679, with Brooke Jackson firing two rounds of 78 for a 12-over-par 156.
Arizona (603), Rollins (606), Kansas State (621) and Kentucky (626) round out the top five of the 16-team field. The tournament concludes today.
Hatch helps Seasiders split with Lady Stangs
Freshman Echo Hatch escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first and went on to blank No. 11 Western New Mexico 1-0, as Brigham Young-Hawaii split a softball doubleheader yesterday.Shea Seever knocked in the winning run and Hatch, a New Mexico native, scattered five hits while striking out four and a walk.
BYUH (15-15, 7-7 PacWest) lost 3-0 to WNMU (25-2, 5-1) in the second game.
Lisa Hansen took the loss for the Seasiders, giving up six hits. Three BYUH errors led to all three WNMU runs.
The teams meet again today in a conference doubleheader, with games in Laie starting this afternoon at 2 and 4.
HSN's Dey steps down to focus on Islanders
Hawaii Sports Network president and co-founder Chris Dey has resigned to focus on his responsibilities as general manager and executive director of the Hawaiian Islanders.Dey will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the Islanders football organization, including sales, marketing, player personnel and game operations.
The Islanders open the season March 30 against Green Bay at Blaisdell Arena.
Wahine squeak out tennis victory
Hawaii pulled out a 4-3 win over West Virginia in women's tennis yesterday at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor won their seventh straight doubles match for the Rainbow Wahine (6-9). Fitzgerald also won her singles match.
The Rainbow Wahine play Wyoming today at 3 p.m. at the Central Oahu Complex.
