Music at lunch time
"Music at Manoa," the University of Hawaii Music Department's series of concerts, presents the UH Contemporary Music Ensemble, under the direction of Peter Askim, in a lunchtime program of 20th-century masterworks, 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Orvis Auditorium.The program will include two of the 20th century's most influential works: Stravinsky's "Octet" and Schoenberg's "Pierrot Lunaire."
Grammy-nominated soprano Judith Kellock will join the group for the free performance.

Electric power play
The eighth annual Hawaiian Electric Electron Marathon will take place Saturday at Ford Island, with 31 teams from high schools across the state racing electric cars they designed and built from identical parts kits provided by HECO, Maui Electric Co. and Hawaii Electric Co.The free event will begin at 9:15 a.m. with an interservice, 10-lap race featuring drivers from the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy. The high school races will begin at 10 a.m.
The vehicle that completes the most laps during a one-hour endurance test will be the winner.
Participating schools for 2003 are Castle, Damien, Hawaii Baptist Academy, Hoala, Honoka'ia, Iolani, Kahuku High and Intermediate, Kalaheo, Kalani, Kapaa, Kapolei, Kauai, Kohala, La Pietra, Lanai, Lanakila Baptist, Lanakila Learning Center, Maryknoll, Maui High, Mid-Pacific Institute, Mililani, Sacred Hearts Academy, Saint Andrew's Priory, Saint Anthony, Saint Louis, Seabury Hall, Waiakea, Waialua High and Intermediate, Waianae, Waimea and West Hawaii Explorations Academy.
