Chiyotaikai lost for the first time today at the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament -- but still held on to sole possession of first place in the standings. Chiyotaikai loses match,
but still alone at topStar-Bulletin wire services
Chiyotaikai lost to Tamanoshima by tsukidashi (frontal thrust out). Tamanoshima improved to 6-2, and is tied with six other wrestlers for second place.
Among those is yokozuna Asashoryu, the only top-level wrestler participating in this tournament. The Mongolian beat Kotoryu to stay within one win of Chiyotaikai.
After winning the Emperor's Cup in two consecutive tournaments, the 22-year-old Asashoryu was promoted to sumo's top rank earlier this year.
Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, is sitting out the tournament with a torn tendon in his left wrist.
