Yokozuna Asashoryu, the only top-level wrestler participating in this tournament, beat Takamisakari by sukuinage (beltless arm throw) to improve to 5-1.
Two previously unbeaten wrestlers, Kotoryu and Jumonji, lost to fall to 5-1.
Eight other wrestlers are tied at 4-2. Kaio stopped Tamanoshima in the second-to-last match of the day to bring both to 4-2.
After winning the Emperor's Cup in two consecutive tournaments -- in November and January -- the 22-year-old Asashoryu was promoted to sumo's top rank earlier this year.
Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, is sitting out the tournament with a torn tendon in his left wrist that has been slow to heal.
