Dave & Buster’s
kicks off ‘Metropolis’

DAVE and Buster's in the Ward Entertainment Complex takes Saturday nights to another level this week with local promoter Rick Rock; "Metropolis" kicks off this week on all three floors of the 44,000-square-foot restaurant and arcade.

DJ Wu-Chang and 102.7 Da Bomb's Kid Leo, Paul Ogata, Ric Havoc, Sam the Man and Kool E will be in the house blowing out free "powercards" from Dave and Buster's, along with other prizes, and you should be able to enjoy Wu-Chang's aural stylings no matter where you are in the place. Although he'll be located at "The Epicenter" on the first floor, plans call for music to be piped throughout the establishment over D&B's in-house sound system.

"Metropolis" is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. Saturday, and you'd better make plans to get there early if lines aren't your style. Let's just hope Rock is able to keep the cover charge at $3 for this 18-and-over party -- that's the normal price Dave and Buster's charges to get in on a Friday or Saturday night ...

Also taking place on Saturday night is "Project 808: The Concert," starting at 7 p.m. at Dole Cannery. This one's a CD release party for an album with the same name that features a variety of local island music, hip-hop and spoken-word artists.

Some of the acts scheduled to take part in "Project 808" include Aziel, B.E.T., Fiji, the Stone Groove Family, Kimo James, Katana, the Nocturnal Sound Krew, Ricci Boy and the Shadow Huntaz. Tickets are $10 for this all-ages party; check out www.mattyliu.com for info ...

HERE'S ANOTHER chance for you to be on television: "Kama'aina Dance Party," a new dance-comedy show, is looking for females ages 18-35 who are attractive, shapely and fit. Created by Leanne Ferrer and Leah Kihara, the program is described as a "cross between 'American Bandstand' and 'Laugh-In' with the slightly manic touch of 'Pee-Wee's Playhouse.'"

Casting for "Kama'aina Dance Party" will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at 1013 Kawaihao St.; participants are asked to bring a head shot and current résumé. Call 593-8848 to reserve an audition time ...

Keep the weekend going a bit longer on Monday and check out the "16th Annual St. Patrick's Day Downtown Celebration" on the corner of Nuuanu Avenue and Merchant Street. An Irish festival kicks off at 11 a.m. in the parking lot across from Murphy's, and streets in the area will be closed at 5 p.m. for a block party. Make sure you wear green ...
