About 150 union hotel workers and supporters rallied yesterday afternoon at the Imperial Hawaii Resort timeshare in Waikiki, where contract negotiations have been under way for three years. Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Local 5 has been negotiating a contract for 60 workers at the Imperial Hawaii. Contract proposals have been exchanged and outstanding issues include subcontracting jobs, mandatory drug testing and job-protection language in the event of an ownership change, according to Local 5. The Imperial Hawaii is on the corner of Lewers Street and Kalia Road, mauka of the Halekulani and Outrigger Reef hotels. Local 5 has recently reached new contracts with Waikiki's major hotel chains, including Hilton, Sheraton and Hyatt.
