Hayashi-Taketa defend
Big Island Candies titleKevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa defended their Big Island Candies Scotch 4-ball championship yesterday at the Hapuna Golf Course on the Big Island.
Hayashi and Taketa shot a 68 in an alternate shot format to edge two other teams by two strokes and earn $1,175.
David Ishii and Greg Meyer tied Brian Sasada and Kirk Nelson for second place with two- day totals of 135. Shane Abe and Beau Yokomoto finished a stroke behind them for fourth.
Sea Warriors sweep Christian Brothers
The Hawaii Pacific softball team swept Christian Brothers 3-2 and 11-3 at Kaneohe yesterday.Jessica Parra won the first game for the Sea Warriors (14-4) while Malia Sullivan pitched her seventh straight complete game to win the second.
Dahlberg honored: Hawaii catcher Denise Dahlberg was named the WAC Player of the Week yesterday after hitting .467 in the five games of the Malihini Tournament.
Islanders open camp tomorrow
The Hawaiian Islanders will begin their first season under Cal Lee with a two-week training camp beginning tomorrow.Lee can bring 37 players to camp but must cut down to 30 by March 24.
The Islanders will open their season March 30 at home against the Green Bay Blizzard.
Choy undefeated at Hawaii tournament
Phoebe Choy beat Wade Takemoto of Kauai 4-0 to win $7,000 at the All Hawaii 9-ball tournament at Las Vegas last weekend.Takemoto earned $4,000 and third-place finisher Lance Gurtiza won $2,500.
Wahine add three spring exhibitions
The Hawaii soccer team will play No. 13 Nebraska Sunday, No. 22 USC March 21 and Oregon March 25.The Wahine play the Huskers at 11 a.m. and the other two opponents at 4 p.m.
