Star-Bulletin staff

The Hawaii Democratic Party named Mark Forman as interim chairman of the state party and Jill Tokuda as its interim executive director at a state central committee meeting yesterday.

Forman replaces attorney Lorraine Akiba, who stepped down as party chairwoman last month. Tokuda replaces Chris Ovitt who held the position since June 2001.

In a press release, the party said a permanent party chair will be named soon, although no specific date has been set.

Forman is the executive director of the Hawaii Medical Service Association Foundation, where he oversees a $20 million endowment. He also served as executive director of the state's Office of Community Services. Tokuda worked with former Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono and has experience with non-profit groups.
