The Hawaii National Guard joined the fight yesterday against salvinia in Lake Wilson. National Guard Sgt. Aurelio Bungcayao waited in his truck at the Wahiawa State Freshwater Park boat launch ramp as salvinia was loaded in by an excavator. Below, Judeia Sala waited in his truck as Frank Alensonorin watched the loading. Schofield Barracks soldiers are working on a new site for salvinia removal and will begin this week.

Seminar on termites planned
Residents who want to know how to keep termites from eating their home and furniture are invited to a seminar from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Aiea High School.The Hawaii Area-Wide Termite Suppression Project of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii-Manoa, is presenting the event through the Aiea Community School for Adults.
Participants can ask questions regarding termites and their homes.
The UH project addresses research, extension and instruction, bringing scientists together in an effort to control termite damage to residences and public buildings.
Costs of controlling and repairing termite damage to Hawaii homes are estimated to exceed $100 million. Termite repairs to public schools are estimated at $241 million.

2 teens arrested in Kaiser bomb threat
A police investigation of a bomb threat at Kaiser High School resulted in positive identification of two 14-year-old suspects -- a boy and a girl, police reported.The school's principal reported the bomb threats to the school Feb. 28, according to police.
The students were arrested and released Friday pending further investigation of the bomb threats, which constitute first-degree terroristic threatening, police said.
Police believe six Kaiser High School students were involved in making a number of telephoned bomb threats.

Man arrested after wife shot in abdomen
Big Island police arrested a 35-year-old Milolii man for allegedly shooting his wife in the abdomen during a domestic dispute yesterday at their home about 8:23 a.m.The woman was reported in guarded condition at Kona Community Hospital yesterday. She was taken to the hospital by the fire department's air ambulance.
The suspect remains in police custody at the Kealakehe police station.
