Dining around the islands
Rice is nice; risotto is special
Think of risotto as rice on steroids, pumped up with herbs, butter and broth. It compares to sticky, white, plate-lunch rice the way vanilla ice cream compares to a triple banana split with hot fudge.Auntie Pasto's is celebrating this classic Italian dish with a Risotto Festival tomorrow through March 30 at its South Beretania and Kapahulu restaurants.
Owner Ed Wary describes the event as a way to visit Italy "without breaking the bank or going through security at the airport."
Prices run from $13.95 to $18.95 for daily risotto specials: pork loin and sweet potato with risotto with balsamic syrup (Monday); lemon chicken with risotto Milanese (Tuesday); veal chop topped with mushroom risotto (Wednesday); osso buco with asparagus risotto (Thursday); shrimp, scallop and garlic risotto with crab cake (Friday); osso buco with risotto Milanese (Saturday); and New York steak with gorgonzola risotto (Sunday).
Risotto may also be ordered as a side dish or appetizer.
Call 523-8855 (Beretania) or 739-CIAO (Kapahulu).
