The Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C.-based international private equity firm, Thursday completed its $300 million purchase of CSX Lines. CSX, based in Charlotte, N.C., has changed its name to Horizon Lines, the company said.

The line is Matson Navigation Co.'s major competitor in the mainland-Hawaii-Guam trade and has two sailings a week from the West Coast to Honolulu, with barge service onward to the neighbor islands.

Brian Taylor, vice president and general manager of what is now the Horizon Lines Hawaii-Guam division, said the local operations remain unchanged. The sale agreement was announced in December.
