Travelers are advised to go to airport earlier
State transportation officials are advising travelers to arrive at Honolulu Airport at least two to three hours before their scheduled departure time due to heightened security requirements by the federal Transportation Security Administration."Due to the national threat advisory level being raised to orange earlier this month, random vehicle searches on all access roads to airports must be conducted for explosive devices," said Rodney Haraga, state transportation director. "This means that all vehicles entering an airport are subject to random checks, including employees, trucks, taxis and passenger vehicles."
Transportation officials said motorists picking up arriving passengers at the airport are also subject to random vehicle searches.
Security checkpoints have already been set up at Honolulu Airport and will soon be implemented at Kahului Airport on Maui and other neighbor island airports, officials said.
