Promoter parties pumpin
IT LOOKS LIKE throwing a monthly party is the new thing to do for local promoters -- it's now possible to do something different every weekend, and a few places have added events to different nights during the week, as well.
At Grumpy's on Keawe Street, for example, M1 Productions and Late Night Entertainment are teaming up on the last Tuesday of the month to present "Vue" at the club. Doors open at 9 p.m. for this 21-and-over party, which features Architechs DJs Delve and XL, along with the Stone Groove Family's DJ Jrama downstairs. The Nocturnal Sound Krew and Microscopic Syllables will hold things down on the second floor at Grumpy's.
Seven bucks gets you through the door tonight for "Vue," and there will be $50 bottles of Moët on special all night long. Call 528-4911 for more info ...
ALSO GOING OFF tonight is the latest installment of the "Glitter 'n Glamour Experience" at Wave Waikiki. I've heard nothing but good things about this monthly party's time travels to the '60s and '70s, and this week should be no exception. Break out the Aqua Net and look for those old pastel-colored threads -- the '80s are back for an evening of craziness that lasts until 4 a.m.
As always during a "Glitter 'n Glamour" event, there will be free makeovers and massages for those in attendance; free samples of Bacardi Vanilla will also be available. DJs Drift, KSM, Monkey, Rayne and Rundown will throw it down on the main floor, while DJs D Mofo D, Gary-O, Subzero and Tim B keep it hot upstairs with classic '80s hip-hop and some underground stuff that should blow your mind ...
AND TOMORROW NIGHT, head to Restaurant Row for help shaking your hump-day Wednesday blues -- "Pupule Punch Wednesdays" promises a night of local music and hula that should do the trick. 99.5 the Breeze's Ola Souza hosts the party at the Ocean Club, which starts 5:30 p.m.
Joining Souza onstage at Ocean's are Ale'a, Maunalua and Pai'ea (with special guest Kenneth Makuakane). A free pupu buffet is available throughout the evening, and you've got to try the make-your-own poke bar that will be there -- you get a bowl of ahi to start, and all the add-ons necessary for your ono-kine grinds are spread out right there. Call 296-9950 for complete details about "Pupule Punch Wednesdays" ...
