Vulcans split
series with HPUThe Hawaii Pacific baseball team beat Hawaii-Hilo 4-3 in the second game of a doubleheader yesterday, avenging a loss by the same score in the first game.
Brent Erickson threw a complete game for the Sea Warriors (4-8), who scored three runs in the seventh to steal the second game. Hilo's Nalei Sooto drew a bases-loaded walk in the last inning of the first game to score Kaliko Oligo and give the Vulcans (5-25) a split of the series.
Broncos squeak past Rainbow Wahine
Lauren Fitzgerald and Stacy Hakikawa beat Santa Clara's top two players but the Hawaii women's tennis team couldn't overcome the Broncos' depth in a 4-3 loss.Renata Camargo also won for the Wahine (3-6), but Mio Fukushima, Justine Boutet and Kimberly Curtis lost. Hawaii lost two of the three doubles matches.
Hawaii visits Cal State Riverside March 7.
Sea Warriors regroup against Yellowjackets
The Hawaii Pacific softball team scored four runs in five innings to beat Montana State-Billings 6-5 in a continuation of a suspended game at Kaneohe yesterday.The game was suspended Friday in the fifth inning with HPU trailing 5-2, but HPU roared back yesterday behind the pitching of Mallory Anderson. The Sea Warriors (8-2, 3-1 Pacific West) used that momentum to win the second game of the doubleheader 3-1 on Jessica Parra's four hitter.
