On the Scene
EL REY DE LA SALSA EN HAWAII: Rolando Sanchez, right, brought a great blend of smooth Latin jazz and salsa to Brew Moon with his quartet, Hot Sauce, on Friday. His partners in Hot Sauce are George Demesillo (bass), left, Judi Palmeira (keyboards and vocals) and John Lundgren (sax and flute). Sanchez, the pioneer in presenting modern Latin music outside the local Puerto Rican community, is also planning a new Salsa Hawaii album.
TIFFANY ROCKS! Tiffany rocked hard at Gussie L'Amour's on Saturday. Her 70-minute show included all her old hits and some great material from her current album, "The Color of Silence." Tiff took time afterward for a photo with Lance Motogawa, lead singer of Kaleidoscope, her opening act.
GOING BACK TO THAT GREAT OLD STREET: George Street sounded better than ever as the trio --Steve Min, left, Gail Mack Nowicki and Gordon Kim -- played a one-nighter at the Ship's Tavern in the Sheraton Moana-Surfrider on Friday. Nowicki and the guys fielded requests for songs by acts as diverse as Shania Twain, Sweet Honey in the Rock and Celine Dion, and featured several of their most popular originals as well.
