>> Gear Up Hawaii has named Aaron Aina Akamu scholars program manager. He will oversee the statewide program, which offers college preparatory activities. There are 2,028 Gear Up scholars statewide. Akamu most recently served as college programs coordinator at University of California, Santa Cruz, where he was responsible for the management and direction of the Oakes College Programs Office.

>> Broadband iTV has hired Tisha Narimatsu as product manager. She most recently served as advertising manager for Cheap Tickets Inc. Broadband iTV, digital channel 326, offers on-demand videos and shopping information about local products and services.

>> Atlas Insurance Agency Inc. has hired Carolyn T. Davis as client consulting group assistant vice president. She will be responsible for client services revenue and profitability, initiating and closing new sales, and overseeing a professional liability insurance product for nursing homes. She was previously a Marsh USA assistant vice president and client advisor concentrating on healthcare and public entity business. Atlas Insurance is locally owned and offers a full range of insurance products.

>> Rick Piper has joined Caron B Realty as a sales specialist. He most recently worked in real estate leasing and commercial investment sales for 5 years.

>> Stephen Goodenow has left private investigative services agency Goodenow Associates Inc. to do independent consulting. He co-founded the firm with his father, FBI Special Agent Barry Goodenow. Terry B. Pennington and Joe Cabrejos remain as company president and vice president/agency licensee respectively.

PROMOTIONS

>> Bank of Hawaii has promoted four new senior vice presidents: Carl Cunningham, mortgage banking division sales manager; Ellen Mulholland, mortgage banking division secondary market manager; Allison M. Yasui, mortgage banking division underwriting and operations manager; and Jill Shimokawa Higa, Hawaii branch division sales manager. Cunningham directs a team of residential loan managers and loan officers. Mulholland guides residential loan sales in the secondary market and introduces new loan programs. Yasui helps establish underwriting and operations' strategic direction and improve service, efficiency and profits. Higa is oversees the training and support department and is responsible for her division's sales strategies, sales management practices and sales force activities.

>> SMG Hawaii has promoted Brian Allen to Hawaii Convention Center food and beverage director. He is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the center's food and beverage department. He was hired by the Center in February 2001 as senior catering sales manager and promoted to assistant operations director in March 2002.

>> Finance Factors has promoted Stephen Watanabe to vice president and information technology manager and Bob Souza to assistant vice president of data center services. Watanabe will be responsible for strategic and tactical implementation of technology. He most recently served as the company's information systems security officer. Souza will oversee the operations and management of the bank's data center services and banking systems. He previously served the company as data center manager and systems administrator.

RECOGNITION

>> Eddie Flores Jr., Chatt G. Wright, and the late Henry A. Walker Jr. are being inducted in the Junior Achievement of Hawaii Business Hall of Fame. Flores is president and founder of L&L Drive Inn. Wright is president of Hawaii Pacific University. And Walker was president, chief executive officer and chairman of Amfac Inc. Junior Achievement educates young people to value free enterprise and to understand business and economics and how it can improve the quality of their lives.

>> Cory Ishihara recently graduated from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists Leadership Academy, which trains radiologic technologists for leadership roles in radiologic science organizations. He is a Queen's Medical Center special procedures technologist and Hawaii Society of Radiologic Technologists president.
