SAN FRANCISCO >> A Hawaii company will pay $60,000 to settle violations of federal regulations on the storage and management of used oil, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Isle firm that mishandled
used oil is fined by EPAAssociated Press
The charges against West Coast Cleaning & Preservation, of Kapolei, date back to inspections in August 2000, the EPA said.
The EPA said Tuesday that the company improperly stored and managed used oil at its transfer facility in Honolulu. Alleged violations included failure to ship 13 containers of used oil off site within a 35-day storage limit, failure to properly mark 19 containers of used oil and failure to maintain accurate records.
West Coast closed last September, but the EPA says its former operations manager has registered with the state Department of Consumer Affairs as the "agent" for Hawaii Cleaning & Coatings Inc., which opened in July.
A message left yesterday at a phone number listed for that company was not returned.
