Family fun night
Grab your sleeping bag for an educational sleepover at Bishop Museum tomorrow night, where participants will explore a collection of turn-of-the-century Korean artifacts in celebration of the Korean immigration to Hawaii.The exhibit includes photographs, ceramics and calligraphy scrolls featured in "Century of the Tiger: A Centennial Celebration of the Korean American 1903 to 2003."
Hands-on activities include mask-making, calligraphy and traditional Korean games like Yoot and Tops and Twinkles. A special planetarium show featuring the Korean night sky will also be offered.
The sleepover begins at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, ending at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children. For more information, call 848-4127.
Royal court sought
The March 3 deadline is quickly approaching for those who would be king -- of Aloha Festivals Oahu royal court, that is.This year, $1,000 scholarships are available for the chosen prince and princess.
The scholarship provides "a new dimension to the royal court experience," said the festivals' executive director Janet Hyrne. "It encourages youth participation and supports our mission of perpetuating Hawaiian culture, customs and traditions."
Applications are available at the festivals' office at Ward Warehouse above Nohea Gallery, or online at www.alohafestivals.com.
Applicants for king and queen must be at least 30, while the prince and princess candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 20. All candidates must be of Hawaiian ancestry and go through training to accurately represent the island during festival appearances throughout the year.
The selection will take place 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Good medicine
Feb. 28 is the deadline for applications to Straub Foundation's 2003 Summer Student Research Program for college and university students interested in careers in medicine.During the program running from June 16 through Aug. 8, research scholars are assigned to foundation-sponsored projects, offered hands-on experience in clinical research and participate in a research/education curriculum.
Eight to 10 scholars will be selected on the basis of qualifications, academic performance, interests and a letter of recommendation.
