despite losing flipStar-Bulletin staff
At a coin flip yesterday to decide the 12th and final berth into the tournament, Campbell beat Aiea and Waipahu.
But according to OIA basketball coordinator Lee Cashman, it was discovered after the coin flip that Campbell had to forfeit some games for using an ineligible player.
The tiebreaker was instead decided on head-to-head competition, and Aiea beat Waipahu during the regular season.
Aiea, Waipahu and Campbell finished tied for sixth in the OIA West Division in the regular season at 4-6.
Regular-season champions Radford (10-0) from the East and Roosevelt (9-1) from the West received first-round byes along with second-place teams Kaimuki (9-1) and Leilehua (9-1).
In first-round games at Castle High School on Thursday, Mililani (7-3) plays Kahuku (6-4) at 5 p.m., and Castle (8-2) takes on Aiea at 6:30.
