Lee ready to return
to mat but knee
is still injuredFormer Saint Louis School wrestler Travis Lee's knee injury kept him out of last week's NWCA All-Star Classic, but he expects to compete again this weekend.
Lee, a sophomore at Cornell, has not wrestled since beating Seth Dunipace of Princeton by major decision Feb. 1. to improve to 23-0. He has wrestled three times since tearing a meniscus Jan. 19.
"It has been bothering me and I didn't want to risk it in a match like that," Lee said. "I am disappointed I didn't get a chance to wrestle Fleeger, but it is probably the smartest decision I've made."
No. 1 Chris Fleeger of Purdue was scheduled to take on Lee, but pulled out of the All-Star event as soon as he heard that Lee was not participating. Lee is ranked second.
Lee expects to wrestle against Harvard and Brown this weekend.
"I need to save my knee for nationals, I will be wrestling in pain for the rest of the year anyway," Lee said.
