Sea Warriors earn first win
in split with Sonoma State

Kai Austin limited Sonoma State to one run over 6 2/3 innings and Brandon Costa singled in a run in the 6th to give the Hawaii Pacific baseball team its first win of the season, 2-1.

The Seawolves put the go-ahead run on first base in the seventh inning but David Zamarano took over for Austin and earned a save without throwing a pitch, picking off a runner at second base for the final out.

Sonoma State got a measure of revenge in the second game, beating HPU 6-1 despite a solo home run by HPU's Tyler Ward.

Maata pushes HPU past Gustavus Adolphus

Mikael Maata swept Kevin Whipple 6-2, 6-0 in singles after teaming with Jan Tribler to beat Whipple and Eric Butorac 8-4 in doubles, helping the Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team to an 8-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus at the Oahu Club yesterday.

Rainbow Wahine split at Stanford Invitational

The Hawaii water polo team shook off a 7-3 loss to No. 2 UCLA to beat UC Santa Cruz 20-3 yesterday at the Stanford Invitational.

Danielle Mulford scored four times for the Wahine, who play USC today.

Wallace heads QB Club agenda

Hawaii basketball coach Riley Wallace will be this week's featured speaker at the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

UH sailing coach Andy Johnson and UH-Hilo baseball coach Joey Estrella will precede Wallace at the meeting, which begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant. The program starts promptly at noon.

Sea Warriors start season with sweep

Kristin Fujii launched her school-record 10th career home run and freshman Jennifer Baron went 6-for-7 as the Hawaii Pacific softball team swept Brigham Young-Hawaii 6-1, 10-1 at Laie yesterday.

Malia Sullivan won the first game for the Sea Warriors and Jessica Parra went three innings to earn the win in the second.

Wahine whiffed by Santa Clara

Jaime Forman-Lau struck out 13 batters to lead Santa Clara to a 4-1 win over Hawaii in the ninth game of the Chevron Paradise Classic last night.

UH's Melissa Coogan gave up two runs on five hits in five innings but was no match for Forman-Lau, who also gave up five hits but allowed only one run.
