Viloria named NABF’s
boxer of the monthWaipahu flyweight Brian Viloria was named boxer of the month by the North American Boxing Federation for his title defense against Alejandro Moreno Jan. 10.
That fight, which Viloria won by decision, was recognized as the NABF Fight of the Month. Viloria is ranked No. 10 by the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Organization.
Wahine start season against UCLA
The Hawaii water polo team will open its season tomorrow at the Stanford Invitational, taking on No. 2 UCLA in the first round.Hawaii, ranked No. 10, takes on UC Santa Cruz later in the day and is scheduled to meet No. 3 USC Sunday.
First day of Paradise Classic rained out
The first day of the Chevron Paradise Classic softball tournament was rained out yesterday.With five games being cancelled, Hawaii will play Louisville today at 6 p.m. and Oklahoma State at 8 p.m. The Wahine will take on Santa Clara and Washington tomorrow before competing in a single-elimination round Sunday.
Soccer world buzzing about Hawaii's Kai
Hawaii striker Natasha Kai was named a third team Freshman All-American yesterday by Soccer Buzz magazine.Kai set WAC records in points (23), and goals (10) for the highest scoring Hawaii team in history.
