Isle programs for
homeless get $4 million

More than $4 million in federal funds has been awarded to eight city programs to assist the homeless with shelter and social services.

"The funds help to provide transitional housing to homeless families with children and those with chronic substance abuse, severe mental illness and disabilities," said Mayor Jeremy Harris.

The total included $790,680 to the Institute for Human Services Homes program, $860,142 to Hoomau Ke Ola, $870,274 to Mental Health Kokua-Safe Haven, $267,217 to Catholic Charities and $575,812 to Salvation Army Adult Treatment Services.

The funds were provided by the 2002 Continuum of Care program that is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
