But was she also
dancing for joy?

FOR GUYS WITH beautiful girlfriends they want to keep who have birthdays coming up, you might want to hide this item: Fred Piluso, handsome well-heeled owner of Scruples, the Kuhio Ave. club, has had his share of beautiful women, but is totally taken with his current inamo, beautiful ballet dancer Kamakoa Page. So much so that when he welcomed her home from her tour with the Pittsburgh Ballet, he had some friends in to share her startled expression when he presented her with her birthday gift -- a new, customized Thunderbird. Vrooom, vrooom ...

THE Honolulu Symphony is justifiably proud of the new Steinway piano they've just purchased, and will showcase for the first time May 20 with Andre Watts and the symphony, and in a piano recital a week later with Jon Nakamatsu. But the Symphony has nothing on Cliff Laughton, whose plans call for opening his Bistro at Century Center this month. Besides fine food and wines, Laughton will feature an unusual piano as well. He recently dropped into the Sanders Piano Co. looking for a Steinway Grand, but was captivated by the unusual design of one 6-foot Steinway. So when you visit the restaurant, be prepared for some fine light classical dinner music on the piano and late night jazz. I can hardly wait ...

Also there was TV announcer and golf analyst Mark Rohlfing, who Rohr hired at Kapalua years ago, UH football coach June Jones, himself an avid golfer, and Spencer Johnson. The latter, who's written several business-guru books, must have blanched when the waiter arrived at the table with a cart of fromage. It was Johnson who wrote the best-seller, "Who Moved My Cheese?" ...

Scoop for Leslie

THE construction crews for The Coconut Plantation at Ko Olina Resort & Marina were worried when Brookfield Homes operations director Jeff Brown called a halt to all work one recent morning and convened an impromptu meeting for everyone. Was this the end? Was unemployment in their futures, some wondered? Before holding the meeting, however, Brown put in a call to KHON-TV's Leslie Wilcox to inform her of what news he was about to reveal. Worries quickly turned to pride when Brown announced that the project had won an unprecedented four gold awards at the National Association of Homebuilders competition in Las Vegas. He likened it to a "Super Bowl win for homebuilders." If you're wondering why Brown chose to give the scoop to Channel 2's Wilcox, it might have something to do with his being married to her, and not wanting her to hear or read about it elsewhere. Smart man! ...
