Santa Clara defeated UH-Hilo for the third straight time in their baseball series as the Broncos blanked the Vulcans 6-0 at Kailua-Kona's Simmons field yesterday.

With men at the corners, center fielder Jack Headley stroked a triple to right-center that gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Headley did more damage in the sixth with a double as Santa Clara added two more runs.

The Broncos scored runs in the seventh and ninth innings to complete the rout.

Santa Clara pitcher Matt Travis scattered three hits in seven innings of work. Vulcans shortstop Kevin Drever had half of Hilo's four hits.

Lady Sea Warriors will honor 1994 team

The Hawaii Pacific University softball team will have a tree dedication ceremony before the Lady Sea Warrior alumni game today at 1 p.m. at the windward Hawaii Loa softball field.

The ceremony will be at noon with HPU coaches Howard Okita and Bryan Nakasone recognizing the members of the 1994 softball team that helped construct the softball field. Okita and Nakasone will dedicate a name plate at the base of the Norfolk Pine Tree planted by each team member.

The Lady Sea Warriors open their season against Gustavus Adolphus College of Minnesota on Friday.

Chapson Memorial run at Kapiolani Park

The Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club is conducting the Harold Chapson Memorial 8K run today at Kapiolani Park.

Registration begins at 6 a.m. with the race starting at 7.

Kamehameha and Punahou play tomorrow

Kamehameha (13-1) hosts Punahou (13-2) tomorrow at 3:45 p.m. in a game that likely will decide the Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball championship.

The game is a make-up of a Jan. 28 rainout.
