They call them the Radford Rams, but you could also call them the kings of beating undefeated teams.

The Rams remained undefeated themselves last night by beating previously undefeated Leilehua 65-53 in Wahiawa. The win came on the heels of a 44-40 victory over Mililani -- another previously undefeated team -- on Wednesday.

Unlike Wednesday, the Rams (6-0) hit game-ending free throws to wrap it up. This time, they went 9-for-11 at the line in the final 70 seconds. The win gives Radford joint possession of first place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association West Division with Pearl City, a 54-49 winner over Mililani last night.

"We had good focus and good teamwork," said Radford's Charles Seanior, who hit for 22 points. "And this time, everyone focused at the free-throw line. We had trouble with that against Mililani. We kept our composure and played hard."

Radford went 5-for-10 on free throws in the latter stages of the win over Mililani, creating extra tension that could have been avoided.

"This was a big win for us," Rams coach Kai Enos said. "Our intensity level was high and when we went to our man-to-man defense it really changed the tempo and it made a difference."

The final score does not indicate how close Leilehua (6-1) came to pulling the game out. The Mules trailed by just two, 48-46, early in the fourth quarter.

But the Rams took control and made it 56-50 on Joshua Auelua's three-point play and a steal that he converted into a length-of-the-court layup. He also had a key defensive rebound in the middle of the surge.

From there, Radford came through with its free-throw barrage.

"At the end we weren't playing as a team," said Leilehua's Andrew Talaeai, who pumped in a game-high 23 points. "We weren't playing hard enough on defense. Radford is definitely the best team we've played so far, and if we play them again, we've got to come more prepared and not have everybody playing as individuals."

The Rams led most of the game. Seanior gave them a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter with seven points, including a steal and coast-to-coast tiebreaking layup before the buzzer.

La Michael Hawkins chimed in with eight points in the second quarter and three heavy-duty defensive rebounds as the Rams went up 34-24 at the half.

Talaeai's gutsy play led Leilehua to a third-quarter comeback. He finished his 14-point period with a baseline drive and 5-foot runner to make it 48-45 heading into the fourth.

But once the Rams got up by six, the Mules were forced to foul and couldn't catch up. Seanior hit 5 of 6 from the line down the stretch.

"Radford outplayed us," Leilehua coach Keith Spencer said. "They hit the big shots and deserved to win. We played good at times, but weren't consistent."

Roosevelt 50, Kaimuki 48, OT: Bryson Borges hit a 15-foot jumper from the left corner with one second left to give the Rough Riders (7-0) the win and sole possession of first place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division.

Idle Castle is the division's only other unbeaten and sits a half-game back at 6-0.

"It was back and forth, back and forth. Nobody really took control," said Roosevelt coach John Chung.

"We had the last possession, and it was one of those games where you kind of knew the team who had the ball last would win."

Kaimuki's Daniel Tautofi fouled out, hurting the Bulldogs' chances in overtime.

"Tautofi is like a man playing with boys and he can shoot the 3s, too," Chung said. "When he fouled out, it helped us.

"We slowed it down and spread it out and then drove to the basket instead of relying on jumpers. And the ball really bounced our way."

Kaimuki coach Stephen Lee credited the Rough Riders with taking the game away from his Bulldogs (5-1).

"We took a lead and could have controlled it a little more," Lee said. "But Roosevelt is aggressive and plays tough defense. They were the better team tonight."
