Dejima and Asashoryu
remain tied at 10-1TOKYO >> Ozeki Asashoryu and third-ranked maegashira Dejima both won their bouts today, remaining in a tie for first place at 10-1 at the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament.
Asashoryu beat Iwakiyama (5-6) by yorikiri (frontal force out), while Dejima also bested Kyokutenho (7-4) by yorikiri.
Wakanosato beat Tokitsuumi (4-7) to improve to 9-2, and is alone in second place after Takamisakari and Takanotsuru lost.
Asashoryu is fighting through injuries, having torn his calf muscle and dislocated his toe Tuesday.
Yokozuna Musashimaru (Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani) is sitting out the basho with an injury.
Fellow grand champion Takanohana withdrew from the basho and announced his retirement earlier this week.
