Memorial services set
for attorney Peter Char

Services for prominent local attorney Peter Char will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Central Union Church.

Char, a partner in the law firm of Char Hamilton Campbell & Thom and a top campaign official for Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris, died Sunday. He was 59.

Supporters are establishing the Peter C.P. Char Memorial Fund at First Hawaiian Bank for donations to benefit various causes advocated by Char.

Celestin Abella, 59, of Kapaa, Kauai, a yard maintenance employee, died Saturday in Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was born in the Philippines. Benny Balanay, 95, of Captain Cook, Hawaii, a retired coffee and macadamia nut farmer, died Jan. 3 in Kona Community Hospital. He was born in the Philippines. Moana Nathine Cotes Balles, 29, of Pahoa, Hawaii, will be remembered in services 10 a.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary. Call after 9 a.m. Balles died Friday after her 1979 Toyota flatbed truck crossed the center line of Volcano Highway and hit a larger pickup head on. Jose Natividad Corpuz, 78, of Waialua, a retired Waialua Sugar Plantation employee, died Dec. 18 in Pearl City. He was born in the Philippines. Mattie "Sue" Hosaka-Parks, 59, of Aloha, Ore., a teacher, died Dec. 30. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband Albert Parks; sons Thomas and Mark Watson and Kaleo, Toshi, and Joshua Hosaka; daughters Mary Cesar and K'Lynn Belles; stepmother Edith Mckinzie; sister Jolene Chavez; and four grandchildren. Venus Kuuleimomi Kaeha, 24, of Waianae will be remembered in services 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Waianae Beach, in front of Coronets. Kaeha died on Jan. 5 after her vehicle crossed the median on Nimitz Highway and crashed into a concrete pillar near Ahua Street. She was born in Honolulu and was a homemaker. She is survived by son Paepaeive Silifaiva, daughter Kisha, mother Geraldina, brother Thomas Reynolds, sister Audrey, and companion Paepaeiva Silifaiva Sr.

Robert Yasuo Kanemitsu, 71, of Wailuku died last Wednesday at home. He was born in Wailuku. He is survived by wife Masayo; son Donald; daughter Lynn N.
