A new star in a new position
in Starr Seigles upper strataDavid Koch, longtime president of Starr Seigle Advertising, has been promoted to the newly created presidency of parent Starr Seigle Communications Inc.
"We're doing more and more things cooperatively, not only within our divisions in Honolulu, but also within our colonies," said Koch, referring to Starr Seigle's operations in New York, Las Vegas and Guam.
Koch takes on responsibilities over StarrTech Interactive, StarrPR public relations and QMark Research & Polling.
"There are many joint business activities that we do together. Also a goal is to make sure that our product is uniform across the board," Koch said.
"David, Phil (Wood) and I will function as a triad of sorts," said Jack Bates, chairman and chief executive officer of Starr Seigle Communications.
Koch has been doing much of the job for a long time, according to Wood.
"More and more often advertising is just a jumping off point," Wood said. "You can't really sit down with a client and talk about problems and solutions without getting into everything from Web sites and e-mail promotions, research and public relations ramifications. This gives him the latitude to march among the many disciplines."
Koch keeps his oversight of the advertising agency, which he joined in 1973. "That's still the big part of my hat. That's most of the gallons," he said.
