The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Cyanotech Corp. jumped 9.5 percent this week to help power the 3-year-old Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index to an all-time high. Biotechs on both ends
The index, which began 2000 with a base value of 100, closed yesterday at 162.61 -- a 62.6 percent gain since inception. It has bucked the trend of the overall market, which just completed three down years in a row for the first time since 1939-41.
The worst performer was Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., which fell 8.3 percent despite announcing yesterday it was acquiring botanical drug development company Ancile Pharmaceuticals Inc. of San Diego.
