Lenny Klompus, Lingle's spokesman, said this morning that the governor is exploring options to give her Jan. 21 speech at 6:30 p.m.
Hawaii's governors traditionally have presented their state-of-the-state addresses, which outline their policies and goals, during a morning joint session of the Legislature.
Klompus said moving the speech to the evening will allow more viewers to see it in its entirety, and television stations have expressed interest in carrying it live. However, details have not been finalized, he said.
Lingle, Hawaii's first woman governor and first Republican governor in 40 years, broke with tradition when she took the oath of office on Dec. 2. She was sworn in during ceremonies at the state Capitol atrium. Previous governors took the oath during ceremonies at the Iolani Palace bandstand.
