ONE OF THE YEAR'S BEST CONCERTS: Jake Shimabukuro, third from left, introduced Kelly DeLima, sixth from left, and Mariko Lyons to Bela Fleck & the Flecktones at the Sheraton-Waikiki on Tuesday. Fleck, holding his banjo, and the Flecktones -- from left, Future Man, Jeff Coffin and Victor Wooten -- played a superb show that included sax duets by Coffin and a great bass solo by Wooten. Shimabukuro sat in for the encore.

IT'S A SLINGERZZ, JACK!: Jack Law, left, enjoyed the moment as Marlin (a one-name artist) demonstrated a trick with a Slingerzz following the Saturday night performance of "LUMA: Theatre of Light" at the Hawaii Theatre. Marlin's versatile little lime-green toy was a big hit with kids during intermission.

A GREAT "NUTCRACKER": Ann Krinitsky, left, joined conductor Stuart Chaftez, Honolulu Ballet Artistic Director Pamela Taylor-Tongg (with leis) and dancers Luis Serrano and Katia Carranza at the backstage party Friday after the opening-night performance of "Nutcracker" at Blaisdell Concert Hall. Carranza and Serrano, star dancers of the Miami City Ballet, were excellent as the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.
