gather this weekendPOOL SHARKS will converge on Hawaiian Brian's this weekend for the latest "Aloha Open 9-Ball Handicapped Tournament." Limited to the first 128 participants, the tournament guarantees $10,000 in prize money to be paid out to the top 32 finishers.
Check-in for the tournament starts at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and all those who enter can practice free for an hour before the real competition begins. There is an entry fee of $60; call 780-2749 to get signed up ...
BETTER KEEP an eye out for television cameras at your favorite nightspot over the next few days. The Comedy Central show "Insomniac" will be in town filming with host Dave Attel. If you haven't seen the show, Attel actually gets paid to fly around the country and find the most popular places to party until the wee hours of the morning.
When a producer for the show e-mailed me last week looking for places to go, I happily passed on a few suggestions. Hopefully I'll run across Attel and the gang sometime this weekend and find out for myself if he really does just drink all night and lets the cameras keep rolling ...
TOMORROW MAY BE Friday the 13th, but it's not going to stop Daniel Ho from getting out and spreading some Christmas cheer. The multitalented entertainer will perform a variety of Christmas music and selections from his album "Coolest Drop of Rain" at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Ukulele master Gordon Mark will also be there to open for Ho starting at 7:30 p.m. (see our lead story).
