Missing hiker Evin Kip Hutchinson made it out fine yesterday after spending two nights in Manoa Valley.

Hutchinson gave his family and friends a scare when he went on what was supposed to be a day hike Wednesday without telling anyone which trail he would be hiking.

The 50-year-old Kaneohe resident said he started out in Nuuanu, hiked over to the Pauoa Flats Trail and eventually made his way to Manoa Valley.

"I went down that way and noticed the waterfalls started getting bigger and bigger, and before I knew it, I got stuck between two waterfalls," he said. "I spent the whole day (Thursday) looking for a way out."

Eventually, he said, he got to the main trail into Manoa Valley and hiked out to a bus stop about 11 a.m. He caught a bus to Ala Moana Center and was able to call his wife by 1 p.m.

Honolulu police had been concerned by the case because they had no way of knowing where to start looking for Hutchinson.

All detectives knew was that, according to Hutchinson's wife, he usually caught the bus in front of the Kaneohe Times Super Market along Kamehameha Highway when he went hiking.

"I'm not hurt, just a little scratched. ... I'm really sorry to get everybody so worried about me."
