Irwin to go for Skins win


Hale Irwin will go for his fourth consecutive Skins Game title next month at WaileaResort's Gold Course.

The 16th annual event, which will be televised by ABC-TV, is Jan. 25 on Maui.

JackNicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino are also competing for the $600,000 purse.

All 18 holes will be played on Jan. 25, but ABC will televise 12 holes that day and six holes on Jan. 26.

Irwin won this past January after making a birdie on the last hole for his 11th skin and a record $450,000 prize. Irwin captured seven skins in 2001, and won a playoff in 1999.He did not play in 2000.

Lee keeps on winning for Cornell wrestling

Cornell sophomore Travis Lee won the 125-pound Sharpie-Carolina Wrestling title over the weekend.

The All-American won with a pin, a technical fall and a major decision to reach the final. He beat sixth-ranked Chris Rodriguez of North Carolina 8-6 to win his weight class.

Lee is unbeaten this season.

Pauley, Holt in running for Tatupu Award

San Jose State's Charles Pauley and North CarolinaState's TerrenceHolt are among the finalists for the 2002 Mosi Tatupu Special Teams Award.

The other finalists are Aris Comeaux of Army, Glenn Pakulak of Kentucky and Todd Sievers of Miami.

The award goes to college football's best special teams player, including kick returners, coverage specialists, punters and place kickers.

The winner will be announced Dec. 13, and will receive the award on Feb. 1 during halftime of Hula Bowl Maui.
