of girlfriend

An Oahu grand jury has indicted a man for murder in the stabbing death of his live-in girlfriend.

Todd Lopez was charged with second-degree murder yesterday for allegedly killing Memory Joy Medina, 30, at their Awalai Street unit sometime between Nov. 24 and Nov. 27.

Her body was discovered Nov. 27 in the bathroom of their Waipahu apartment, three days after the two were heard arguing heatedly.

A cousin who lived in the main house that their unit was attached to had heard Medina's screams, sounds of her screams being muffled and thumping on Nov. 24. When he went to check on her, Lopez assured him nothing had happened and that he could talk to Medina, who was in the bathroom. The relative thought Medina was OK and left without personally checking on her. He thought Medina left the house with her boyfriend the next morning.

Police went to the apartment Nov. 27 looking for Medina after receiving an anonymous call from a woman asking them to check on her.
