Hanabusa to unveil platform
in bid for Congress



State Sen. Colleen Hanabusa (D, Waianae) was to unveil her campaign platform today in her bid for Congress.

Hanabusa and 43 other candidates are hoping to succeed the late U.S. Patsy Mink and represent the 2nd Congressional District for the next two years. A special election to pick a successor is slated for Jan. 4.

She said her campaign plans to focus on civil rights, native Hawaiian rights and self-determination, women's issues, gender equity, labor and gender equity.

Hanabusa also said she has agreed to a televised, taped debate with Ed Case, who won the Saturday special election to serve out the remaining five weeks of Mink's current term. She said Matt Matsunaga has also been invited to participate. The debate will be taped on Dec. 21 to be shown on Olelo community television Channel 54.
