The 6-foot middle blocker from Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil, was unanimously chosen as the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year earlier this month.
She led the conference in kills (5.62 per game), and was third in the nation. She was second in the PWC in blocks (1.29), third in aces (0.43) and fourth in attack percentage (.282).
Garbelotti registered 20 kills or more 15 times in the season and set the school record with 38 kills in a match against Chaminade on Nov. 1.
Garbelotti is also a Verizon Academic All-American.
Cornell's Lee opens with win
Sophomore Travis Lee won the 125-pound title for Cornell at the Body Bar Invitational over the weekend.Lee, a three-time state wrestling champion from St. Louis, helped the Big Red open the season with a tournament victory. Lee recorded two falls and two technical falls in his four matches.
Lee placed seventh in the NCAA Championships last season to earn All-American honors.
HPU and BYUH start with victories
Hawaii Pacific opened its season by beating St. Mary's (Texas) 83-78 on Monday at Mid-Pacific's gym.Point guard Marvin Noble scored a team-high 22 points for the Sea Warriors.
Antonio Falu led STMU with 27 points.
HPU plays Carleton (Minn.) tonight at 7:30 at Mid-Pac.
Seasiders blow out Mighty Oaks: Brigham Young-Hawaii routed Oakland City (Ind.) 103-75 in its season-opener on Monday in Laie.
Alexus Foyle scored 28 points and Scott Salisbury added 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
