>> Two rap/hip-hop albums representing opposite sides of the spectrum get their release today: Snoop Dogg's "Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss" and "Phrenology" by the Philadelphia band the Roots. While he makes like the playa hater on "Pimp't Slapped," taking a swipe at his former Death Row boss Suge Knight, as well as rappers Xzibit and Kurupt, he also pairs up with Jay-Z, Redman, Nate Dogg and the Neptunes on other cuts. The Roots' eagerly anticipated follow-up to the acclaimed "Things Fall Apart" finds the neo-soul procreators uniting with fellow Philly friends Musiq and Jill Scott, plus guest appearances by Nelly Furtado, Talib Kweli and up-and-comer Cody Chestnutt.
>> Paul McCartney's "Back in the U.S." documents his successful "Driving USA" tour from earlier this year. The two-CD collection offers the full 35-song set from the spring tour, which mixed many Beatles classics, including the never-before-performed "Hello Goodbye" and "Getting Better"; Wings and McCartney solo fare, including "Jet," "Coming Up" and the heartfelt tribute to his former songwriting partner John Lennon, "Here Today"; and songs from his most current studio album, "Driving Rain."
An accompanying DVD also comes out today, offering fans a fuller experience of McCartney's time on the road, with footage of concert soundchecks and behind-the-scenes stuff, as well as concert performances that aren't on the CD set.
Also out today: "More ..." Busta Rhymes; "Dru World Order," Dru Hill; "Just Whitney," Whitney Houston; "Emotional," K-Ci & JoJo; "Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors"; "Does This Look Infected?" Sum 41.
