No. 4 score in integrity

Hawaii ranked No. 4 nationwide in a survey looking at the strength of laws intended to promote integrity in government.

The Better Government Association looked at each state's laws pertaining to freedom of information; whistle-blower protection; campaign finance; conflicts of interest; and gifts, trips and honorariums.

"I think we can be proud in Hawaii as one of the leaders in the area of governmental ethics laws," said Dan Mollway, executive director of the state Ethics Commission, who released the results of the report.
